Overview
Design a booklet that visually interprets a haiku through abstract typography and graphic elements, capturing its tone and essence beyond literal representation. I used the following haiku:
"I write, erase, rewrite
Erase again, and then
A poppy blooms."
- Katsushika Hokusai

Approach
This haiku captures the cyclical, sometimes frustrating nature of the creative process, where persistence through trial and error leads to something meaningful. I wanted to reflect this emotional journey by transitioning from chaotic, angular spreads to calm, organic layouts, with the haiku’s fragmented text emphasizing the shift from disorder to clarity.

Color Method
The use of color on the last spread also pushes this idea not only to tie into the poppy in a non-literal way but also to represent the moment when a project finally "comes together" as it contrasts with the Black and white throughout the haiku which plays into the idea of using graphite and redrawing and erasing your work.
